About the artwork and its purpose
Through connected meeting places, pathways, footprints and symbols of healing, this piece tells a story of culture, mentorship, community and the networks that surround young people on their journey into health and leadership. It honours those who have walked before while celebrating future medical leaders who will continue to strengthen communities through culturally safe care.
This piece was commissioned for the IGPTN-MALPA Education Project, a national initiative inspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth to pursue careers as General Practitioners and Rural Generalists.

About the artist
Kelly Hammant is a Wiradjuri artist who traces her Aboriginal heritage through her mother’s side, with family connections to Wellington, NSW, and Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island).
Following 30 years of distinguished military service across the Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force, including 13 deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East, Kelly turned to art as a medium for healing, reflection and storytelling. Her work centres on memory, resilience and a deep connection to Country, identity and belonging.
