“It (IGPTN) made a huge difference! I have no doubt I passed exams thanks to the conferences providing exam education, practice skills, GP education and study groups!”

” IGPTN is like an extended family. I felt supported by IGPTN and all the other registrars when going through my training.”

RACGP Trainee

Being a GP can be very isolating, and a registrar in training more so. IGPTN has provided a culturally safe place for me to connect and build strong relationships with other trainees or fellows.”

“IGPTN plays a crucial role in workforce equity by helping to nurture and retain more Indigenous doctors in the field, which is essential for achieving health equity for our communities.”

All Indigenous GP trainees are invited to be a part of IGPTN — it is free to join.

The Indigenous General Practice Trainee Network (IGPTN) is a network for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander GP trainees to provide professional and cultural support to one another.

We exist to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to become General Practitioners (GPs).

By working to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander GPs, the IGPTN positively contributes to:

  • Improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Promoting a health system responsive to patient needs, including increasing the comfort of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people when seeking medical assistance
  • Promoting positive role models to Indigenous and non-Indigenous people
  • Training and workforce equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander GPs
